Prosperity On The Gazzam Branch,

assembled by Bill Matlack

A 2020 publication about the Beech Creek Railroad's "Gazzam Branch" which ran along the banks of Clearfield Creek.  This book is more than a technical discussion of the railroad, but delightfully engages the reader into considering the lives and economy of the communities and the people who lived along the line as well as how those local economies have been replaced by big business.

An interesting history read assembled by Bill Matlack, consulting with Mark Selfridge and editing with Jeanne Huffman.
Presented in a soft covered, 8 ½” x 11”, glossy  144 page book. Containing 32 map selections, 25 black & white photos,  21 color prints, along with  5 graphic illustrations.

Starting in 1885 through 1936, for 52 years of operation in a section of the Pennsylvania coal fields, thirteen major investors, including the likes of:  The Langdons,  Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), Vandebilts,  Jos. Gazzam, Wm. Wallace, Sam. Peale,  James Kerr and  J.P. Morgan, etc., provided capital funds required to extract the bituminous minerals from Clearfield County coal fields.
